May 23 2019
Father’s Day is just around the corner, so start planning ahead! Give dad or grandpa the special day they deserve this June 16. Here are some ideas for unique outings and gifts around the Upper West Side.
Paint a ‘Rad Dad Portrait’ at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan
The Children’s Museum of Manhattan on the Upper West Side is celebrating Father’s Day with special programming June 15-16. Kids can paint portraits of their dads, or drop in to the duct tape creation station to construct a tie, wallet, or picture frame! Children’s author Nancy H. Rothstein will also read her humorous book, “My Daddy Snores” at 11 am and 4 pm Saturday and Sunday. Click for more details.
Listen to old-school storytelling in Central Park
Since 1957, kids in NYC have gathered at the Hans Christian Anderson statue in Central Park to listen to folk stories, fairy tales and fables told by expert storytellers. The tradition continues in Central Park every summer. This is great for kids ages 6+ and adults! Afterward, you can stroll around the park with Dad and enjoy the lush landscaping of Central Park. It’s free! See details.
Movie tour of the Upper West Side
Feeling ambitious? Plan a movie tour of the Upper West Side, which was a filming location for iconic movies like Ghostbusters, West Side Story and Rosemary’s Baby. Seinfeld fans can also visit Tom’s Restaurant located at 2880 Broadway, which appears in nearly every episode of Seinfeld. Don’t forget to swing by The Dakota near Central Park at 1 72nd St. to show pops where John Lennon and other famous celebrities lived. Read more.
Pick out something special at Frank Stella Clothier
Bring your dad or grandpa to the Frank Stella Clothier at 440 Columbus Ave. to pick out something special from this longtime neighborhood shop for menswear. Frank Stella offers casual wear to formal attire.
