Spring has Sprung: The Best Places to See Spring Colors on the UWS

April 04 2022

Love spring? Surprisingly New York is a great place to experience it. The city is home to over 28,000 acres of green space and there is no better time to visit them than in spring. With 20,000 acres of parks and over 7,000 acres of forest there are endless places to relax, surrounded by nature – even in the heart of the world’s most famous city.

Central Park

The first on our list – and perhaps the most obvious – is Central Park. Known as the most famous park in the world, a trip to NYC wouldn’t be complete without a visit. Located just steps from the Hotel Beacon, Central Park is covers almost 3.5 km2 and is one of the best places in the city to experience the colors, smells and sounds of spring.

The find the best blooms in the park visit:

  • Cherry Hill (Mid-Park at 72nd St)
  • Shakespeare Garden (West Side at 79th St)
  • Conservatory Garden (East Side at 104th-106th Streets)
  • Pilgrim Hill (East Side at 73rd St)

If you’re not too worried about seeing the blooms, a great way to just experience the better weather is an afternoon drink in the sun at one of the many cafes or bars within the park – the perfect recipe for a lazy Sunday.

Cherry Blossoms

There are over 40,000 Cherry Trees in NYC and they bloom anytime between mid-April and mid-May. There are plenty of spots to see them around the city, but if you’re looking for something close to the Hotel Beacon, the aptly named Cherry Walk is a great place to visit. The 4km path runs alongside the Hudson River between 72nd Street and 158th Street and is almost completely lined by cherry trees – as well as offering views over the water.

Brooklyn Botanic Garden

Less than 40 minutes from the Hotel Beacon, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden is a great day out if you visit during the spring months when so much is in bloom. There is plenty to see within the gardens, but the display of 45,000 bluebells in the Bluebell Woods, is perhaps the most spectacular. The bluebells bloom in early May and through this link you can check what other flowers or trees are blooming during your visit to the city.
