A TikTok Guide to Viral New York

August 26 2024

TikTok—you’ve definitely heard of it and you might even be using it. Even if you’re not using TikTok, your Instagram and Facebook feeds are full of reposts from the app. Going viral is a content maker's dream—but that’s not all TikTok is good for.

In recent years TikTok has become one of the best ways to discover a new city—and what was once “an instagramable spot” is now TikTok famous. From restaurants to photo-opportunities and speakeasies to observation decks, TikTok is helping kids (and adults too) to plan their vacations in the city.

DUMBO

DUMBO—short for Down Under Manhattan Bridge Overpass—is quickly becoming one of the city’s most photographed areas. The cobblestone streets, views of the iconic Empire State building framed through the piles of Manhattan Bridge, and selection of popular restaurants and bars has made the spot a hit for TikToker’s from all over the world.

Levain Bakery

If you’re an avid TikTok user there’s a good chance you will have seen the famous, oversized cookies from the Levain Bakery on the app. With ample locations all over the city, there are plenty of places to try the famous sweet treat—but be prepared to queue!

Summit One Vanderbilt

New York has no shortage of observation decks to explore, but Summit One Vanderbilt is a TikToker’s dream. From the glass-floored skydeck to the mirrored infinity rooms, Summit One is much more than just an observation deck with unbeatable views. Head up at sunset for the best views across the city skyline.

Speakeasies

Speakeasies are nothing new in New York City. In fact, they first came about in 1880 in the USA, before really taking off during the prohibition era between 1920 and 1933. While the prohibition era ended almost 90 years ago, speakeasies are still a popular place to enjoy a cocktail in the city. Thanks to TikTok many modern-day speakeasies are popping up over the city—like the one at Crif Dogs which you enter via an old phone booth.

Pietro Nolita

Pietro Nolita—otherwise known as the pinkest place in NYC—is a restaurant located in Lower Manhattan and made famous by TikTok. The restaurant has pink tables, pink walls, and pink plates and is the perfect backdrop for a viral TikTok video—we’ve heard the Italian food on offer is great too!

Color Factory

Who doesn’t love a giant ball pit? Color Factory has quickly grown to be one of the most popular places to film for TikTok in the city, thanks to its huge ball pit, confetti showers, and glitterball rooms. The immersive art experience is a great place to produce TikTok content.
