Celebrating Mother's Day on the Upper West Side

April 16 2019 | The Upper West Side

Don’t let Mother’s Day catch you off guard! This year it falls on May 12. Honor mom with a special outing, fresh flowers, or peace and quiet  – you know she deserves it.

Here’s a look at Mother’s Day events happening on or around the Upper West Side, all just a few blocks from Hotel Beacon – the most family-friendly hotel in Manhattan.

Mother’s Day at the Children’s Museum of Manhattan

The Children’s Museum of Manhattan will focus on art and gift-making for mom this Mother’s Day weekend. Kids can make gifts from heart-shaped seed pods or get crafty with more traditional materials. See website for more details.

Bouquet-making at the Queens Botanical Garden

Take the special mom in your life to the Queens Botanical Garden where she can smell the flowers while you make her a special Mother’s Day bouquet. Admission is $40 and includes all the materials! Drop-ins welcome on Saturday, May 11 from 11-1 pm. See info.

The Central Park Zoo’s Mother’s Day Celebration

The Central Park Zoo dedicates Mother’s Day to animal moms and their babies. The special celebration includes a scavenger hunt and hands-on activities. Note to all mama bears: this is a sure-fire way to tucker out the kids so you can have a quiet afternoon. Ideal for moms with children ages 2-10. See times and ticket prices.

NY Handmade Collective’s Spring Pop-Up 2019

Take mom to shop for handmade items at the bi-annual NY Handmade Collective’s Spring Pop-Up at the Grand Bizarre this Mother’s Day. It’s like Etsy but in real life. Let ma enjoy the day with total freedom of choice – where to eat, where to shop. See event info here.

If you have something else planned but you’re interesting in picking up some fresh flowers for your mom, make sure to check out our favorite local florists on the Upper West Side.
