Close the Summer in Style – What to do on Labor Day in NYC

August 15 2022

And just like that, it’s Labor Day weekend. While summer is great, for many of us fall is welcomed, and long cozy nights are something we’re ready for – but before the weather cools, Labor Day weekend is here to close out the summer.

Labor Day weekend means the end of summer and is the last weekend before kids go back to school after the long break. This year it falls on Monday the 5th of September, but events will take place over the whole weekend, beginning on a Friday evening – helping you to make the most of the three-day break.

Here are our best picks for LD weekend across the city – and for some events, it’s the first time they’ve been hosted since pre-2020 and they promise to be bigger and better than ever.

Richmond County Fair – Sept 3rd-5th

Summer Fairs are a summer favorite, and this Labor Day weekend the historic town of Richmond will host its 42nd annual County Fair. Enjoy rides, live music, games, and food and drink all weekend. Tickets are $15 for adults, and children under 5 are free – don’t miss out on one of the oldest annual fairs in the city.

Sun Sets at the Met DJ Set – Sept 2nd and 3rd

Sun Sets at the Met are a series of free concerts hosted throughout the summer and the very last performances will take place over Labor Day weekend – with Musclecars performing on Friday and Analog Soul on Saturday. Entrance is first come, first served, and included in the cost of the museum admission. The bar is on the rooftop and offers views across the Manhattan skyline as the concert takes place – a must-see event.
