Want to See New York City from a Unique Angle? Kayak Tours are a Great Summer Day Out

July 04 2022

Whether you’re a resident or just visiting, making the most of the summer in New York is important! As one of the world’s biggest and busiest cities, there are plenty of unique activities to try in the summer months when the weather is at it’s best.

Did you know you can kayak in New York City?

While New York is a very urban city, it’s possible to swim, jet ski, and even kayak within the city limits. Kayak tours are offered in a variety of different locations, each offering a unique way to see some of the city’s most popular landmarks.

For most of the tours on offer, you won’t need any previous experience, and many accept children too – making it a great day out for all the family.

Manhattan Kayak Company

The Manhattan Kayak Company is one of the oldest in the city and has been in operation since 1995. The company offers over 50 different activities – with the most popular being kayaking and paddle boarding – as well as lessons and tours. As the most well-known company tickets can sell out quickly during the summer, so make sure you book well in advance.

Urban Paddle: Nighttime Tour

As the city that never sleeps, New York is as impressive at night as it is in the daytime. When night falls the skyline, Broadway, and the waterfront lights up, and now you can see it all by Kayak. Urban Paddle offers a variety of tours with both paddle boards and kayaks and their most popular is the nighttime kayak tour, where small groups of people are taken out onto the Hudson at night, with LED kayaks that glow different colors on the water.

Kayak Hudson: Sunset Tours

New York has some of the most photographed sunsets in the world, and in the summer they can be spectacular. Sunset kayak tours are in operation between May and October, but the start time varies week on week to accommodate the changing sunset times through Spring and into Summer. The tour is two hours long and can be enjoyed in one or two-person kayaks as part of a small group.
