And, just like that, the holiday season is over for another year!

As we move into January, the winter days are more challenging without the holiday buzz, but that doesn’t mean to say it’s all doom and gloom.

New York is great for sales all year round, but they are particularly good in January as stores need to clear out last season’s stock for the new season – and there are some great bargains to be had.

Whether you’re looking to treat yourself, get a head start on next year’s Christmas, or can’t resist shopping till you drop – Manhattan is a shopper’s paradise in January.

Despite the weather, January is one of the best months to visit New York City, especially if you hope to skip the crowds.

But where do you begin?

Flagship Stores

Manhattan is home to some of the biggest flagship stores in the world, and all of them host impressive sales that start on the 26th of December and often run through till the end of January.

If you’re hoping to grab a bargain, remember that all the “good stuff” will go quickly at the beginning of the month, so get there early. Head to Bloomingdales, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, and Barneys for the best sales.

Boutiques

Hate department stores? Looking for a more elegant shopping experience? The Madison Avenue Boutiques (including Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren, and Elie Saab) offer a more luxurious way to shop – even in the sale season.

Outlet Centers

Do you want to make savings on top of savings? Outlet Centers host January Sales too. Big brands use outlet centers to sell off the previous season’s stock and create new product space. As a result, even luxury brands are heavily discounted, and during the January sales, additional discounts and multi-buy savings are added.

Emporiums and Department Stores

If you’re looking for a great bargain, head to the emporiums and department stores downtown – for example, T.J.Maxx, Macy’s Herald Square or Nordstrom, to name a few. If you have a good eye, it’s not unheard of to find your favorite brands with huge discounts, especially after the holidays.
