NYC’s Best Outdoor Parks for Summer

May 27 2024

New York City is home to 1,700 parks and green spaces, and when summer arrives and the city heats up, New Yorkers flock to them. If you’re in the city over the summer months, there are plenty of spots to escape the city heat and relax in the sunshine on the grass.

But what are New York’s best parks to enjoy in Summer 2024?

Prospect Park with Brooklyn's only lake surrounded by trees and lawns.

Central Park

No list of New York parks would be complete without giving Central Park a mention. Central Park is without a doubt the most famous park in the USA, if not in the world. Home to almost 850 acres, the park is a true oasis in the summer months.

Whether it's a free concert, a leisurely stroll, an hour on a row boat, a trip to the zoo, or simply relaxing on one of the many lawns in the sunshine - there is no end to the things you can enjoy in Central Park on a sunny afternoon.

Prospect Park

Prospect Park was designed by the same people who created Central Park, but the two parks are worlds away from each other. While Central Park is in the center of Manhattan, Prospect Park is located in Brooklyn and offers a much more relaxing experience.

The park is home to Brookyn’s only lake and has a lot fewer visitors than you will find in Central Park. If you’re thinking of heading to Prospect Park for the day, pack a picnic, a good book, and a bottle of wine and find a quiet, shady spot to relax.

Hudson River Park

Hudson River Park is located on the waterfront on the Upper West Side of Manhattan. There are plenty of spots to cycle, walk, run, or even rollerblade with views over the Hudson River and New Jersey Skyline.

Don’t feel like relaxing? There are plenty of spots to stay active in the park - with kayaking, sports courts, playgrounds, and even outdoor movie nights to enjoy in the Hudson River Park.
