September marks the official end of summer, the beginning of fall, and the start of colorful foliage in Central Park. Seize the day and the enjoy the comfortable weather before it turns to winter! Here are some upcoming events on the Upper West Side this September.
For a casual night at the opera, take advantage of free opera screenings at the Metropolitan Opera during the last days of summer. Running through Sept. 3, opera favorites will be projected outside with seats for 2,800. Un Ballo in Maschera is set for Saturday, Sept. 1; Der Rosenkavalier for Sept. 2, and Madama Butterfly will screen Monday, Sept. 3. Read more.
It isn’t September without Oktoberfest. Enjoy the seasonal change and fall foliage over a German beer in the best of venues, Central Park. Wash down your favorite German foodfare with a hefty beer at this annual event, complete with live music from Heimat Klänge and The Polka Brothers, among others. General admission is $35 – purchase your tickets ahead of time and check out the 61st Annual German-American Steuben Parade, which starts on Fifth Avenue. Sept. 15 from 1:30 to 7:30 pm.
Be part of a global movement. This year’s free, annual outdoor concert will host the likes of Janet Jackson, The Weeknd, Cardi B, John Legend and more on Sept. 29 in Central Park. The Global Citizen Festival began in 2012 by the Global Poverty Project as a means to put an end to extreme poverty. Last year’s festival welcomed nearly 60,000 visitors. Tickets are monetarily free, but they must be earned! Do your part by downloading the app to see what positive act you can do to help your community.
